ABURY Scholarship
Problem
Talent, curiosity, and dreams are equally distributed around the world. Opportunities are not. That is why, since 2023, we have been awarding the ABURY Scholarship to girls from Morocco.
Many girls, especially those growing up in rural areas of Morocco, face traditional gender roles, limited access to education, and a lack of female role models, all of which can restrict their vision of what their future could look like. They often have few opportunities to discover different paths in life, gain international experience, or fully realize their own potential.
Yet it is precisely these young women who have the potential to create lasting positive change in their families, their communities, and ultimately society as a whole.
Through our work in rural Morocco, we meet girls who inspire us every day. Many teach themselves new languages online, learn coding on their own, or pursue knowledge with remarkable determination and curiosity. What they often lack is not motivation, ambition, or talent, but access to networks, inspiration, new perspectives, and people who believe in them.
Without these opportunities, countless possibilities remain out of reach—and extraordinary talent remains undiscovered.
Our approach
With the ABURY Girls Gearing Up Scholarship, we give young women from Morocco the opportunity to unlock their potential. Each year, we award scholarships that enable them to participate in the international ABURY Girls Gearing Up Academy in Berlin, our one-week leadership and empowerment program that brings together girls from diverse countries, cultures, and backgrounds.
The scholarship covers support with the visa application process, travel expenses, accommodation, and full participation in the program.
Throughout the Academy, participants explore topics such as leadership, personal development, communication, design thinking, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and social impact. They learn from inspiring mentors, entrepreneurs, and experts, collaborate on innovative ideas for the future, and experience firsthand the power of cultural exchange and international friendships.
Most importantly, however, they experience something that stays with them for life: they discover that their voice matters, that their ideas have value, and that they have the power to create change.
They return to Morocco with renewed confidence, practical leadership skills, and an international network of friends and mentors, ready to take on responsibility, pursue their ambitions, and inspire other girls to believe in their own potential.
What happened since 2023
Since 2023, we were able to award eleven scholarships to young women from Morocco. For many of them, the journey to Berlin became a true turning point. It was their first flight, their first passport, and their first experience outside their home country.
For the first time, they met peers from around the world, presented their ideas in English, explored global challenges and future opportunities, and discovered strengths and abilities they had never recognised in themselves before.
The impact of this experience extends far beyond the Academy itself. Many of the participants return with a newfound sense of confidence, take on more active roles in their schools and communities, pursue their educational and career goals with greater determination, and share what they have learned with other girls.
They become ambassadors for change, inspiring those around them and proving that where you come from should never determine where you can go.
Every single scholarship changes far more than one girl’s life. It strengthens families, inspires entire communities, and builds a growing network of young women who take responsibility, support one another, and actively shape the future.
That is the true power of our Scholarship Program: one opportunity for one girl creates a ripple effect that transforms the lives of many.
