Development of potential for 13-19 year old girls
ABURY Teenage Girls Club
Problem
Adolescent girls are the most vulnerable and marginalized group in the world today. These girls are doubly discriminated against because they are female and young. They are often denied education and subjected to exploitation, child marriage and early motherhood.
Although schooling is compulsory in Morocco, only about 55% of 7- to 13-year-old girls in rural areas are enrolled in school, resulting in high illiteracy rates among girls.
Our approach
1st ABURY Teenage Girls Club
ABURY advocates for the empowerment of adolescent girls and offers programs that help girls understand their worth, their voice, their bodies, their rights, and their path. Together with Project Soar (local NGO), we train local young women to lead the girls through 25 workshops and activities over the course of a school year.
2. ABURY Teenage Girl Exchange
For the first time, we launched a competition for teenage girls in Morocco in 2023. The winner received a full scholarship to the “Girls Leadership Academy” in Berlin. The winner was 17-year-old Marwa from Ouarzazate. In July 2023, she spent a week in Berlin with 35 girls from 17 nations.
